On April 7, 2025, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2025-157, formally classifying ALEPH-4, chemically identified as 1-(2,5-dimethoxy-4-propan-2-ylsulfanylphenyl)propan-2-amine,as a temporarily controlled narcotic under the Narcotics Control Act, citing potential risks to public health.

Under the new regulations, the following activities involving ALEPH-4 are now prohibited:

  • Extraction, manufacturing, import/export, or possession for such purposes;
  • Distribution, aiding in distribution, receiving, supplying, or possession for such purposes;
  • Possession, ownership, use, transportation, administration, injection, or storage.

Exceptions are permitted only under special circumstances, provided that individuals or entities obtain prior approval from the MFDS.

The temporary designation will remain in effect from April 6, 2025, to March 31, 2028. The public and relevant organizations may access the full list of temporarily controlled narcotics and additional details via the MFDS official website.

This measure underscores South Korea’s commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing potential drug abuse, reflecting the government’s stringent stance on regulating hazardous chemical substances.
