South Korea to Upgrade Chemical Regulation! K-REACH Amendment to Take Effect in August

On February 13, 2025, the South Korean Ministry of Environment submitted a draft amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH) to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The public can submit suggestions until April 14, 2025. This amendment includes clarifying the standards for hazardous substance classification, establishing a Hazard Assessment Committee, expanding the scope of hazard assessments, enhancing transparency in information disclosure, and optimizing regulatory enforcement mechanisms. The amendment is expected to be officially adopted and come into effect on August 7, 2025.
