Japan's Draft Proposal: Regions with PFAS Exceeding Standards in Tap Water to Face Strict Control

Japan released a draft proposal aimed at reclassifying perfluorooctane sulphonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) as chemicals requiring stricter monitoring under the Water Supply Law. If implemented, from April 2026, all Japanese water suppliers will be legally obliged to regularly test the levels of PFOS and PFOA.
