Washington State Proposes Ban on Formaldehyde-Releasing Agents in Cosmetic Products Starting 2026
Date:Jul 25, 2024

On July 23, Washington State released a preliminary draft plan to ban the production, sale, and distribution of personal care products containing any of ten intentionally added formaldehyde-releasing agents (FRAs) starting from July 1, 2026. Retailers will have an additional year to clear existing inventory. The agency is seeking feedback on a range of topics, including whether the top ten FRAs represent the most commonly used in personal care products, compliance deadlines, and the definition of "intentionally added." The deadline for submitting comments is August 13.
