The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (commonly referred to as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology or MIIT) was established as a component department of the State Council in accordance with the institutional reform plan of the State Council announced on March 11, 2008.
The main responsibilities of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology include: formulating and implementing industry plans, industrial policies, and standards; monitoring the daily operations of industrial sectors; promoting the development and independent innovation of major technological equipment; managing the communications industry; guiding and advancing the construction of information technology; and coordinating and safeguarding national information security.
