ECHA Proposes to Add 1 SVHC Substance to Candidate List
Jul 19, 2024

On June 7, 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) proposed adding O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate (CAS: 597-82-0) to the EU's list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under REACH.

The proposers are preparing to submit their documents by August 1, 2024. After this, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) will conduct a public consultation, inviting stakeholder feedback. Based on this feedback, ECHA will decide whether to add the substance to the January 2025 SVHC candidate list.

Name CAS Num. EC Num. Submitter Scope Common Uses Expected date of submission Date of intention
O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate 597-82-0 209-909-9 Netherlands PBT (Article 57d) Antioxidants and stabilizers for plastics and rubber, polymerization catalysts, and lubricant additives. 01-Aug-2024 27-May-2024

Companies must meet specific obligations when their products contain SVHCs.

  1. Provide SDS when SVHCs are sold individually.
  2. SDS is mandatory for mixtures with SVHCs ≥0.1%.
  3. For SVHCs in products over 0.1%, detailed information must be shared freely with downstream users or consumers within 45 days.
  4. Notify ECHA within six months if a product contains more than 0.1% of a single SVHC and annual exports or manufacturing/import exceeds one ton.
  5. SCIP notification is required for products with SVHC content above 0.1%, as per the EU Waste Framework Directive.
