The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China is a newly established central ministry under the backdrop of the 2008 central "large ministry system" reform. It is a component department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, responsible for administrative management in the field of construction.
On March 15, 2008, in accordance with the State Council institutional reform plan approved by the first session of the 11th National People's Congress, the "Ministry of Construction" was renamed the "Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development."
