The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China was a former component department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, in charge of national environmental protection work. Its predecessor was the former State Environmental Protection Administration. The Ministry of Environmental Protection was established in March 2008. In March 2018, the first session of the 13th National People's Congress approved the "State Council Institutional Reform Plan," which led to the establishment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection was no longer retained.
