About
The Congress of the United States is the highest legislative body in the United States, consisting of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Members of both chambers are directly elected by voters from their respective states. Each state elects two Senators, totaling 100 Senators, who serve six-year terms. Every two years, one-third of the Senate seats are up for re-election. Representatives are allocated to each state based on population and are elected to serve two-year terms, with all seats up for re-election at the end of each term. Members of both chambers may be re-elected without term limits. Senators and Representatives are full-time public servants and are prohibited from holding positions within the executive branch of the government.
