The Ministry of Finance of Japan (Japanese: ざいむしょう, English: Ministry of Finance) is one of the central government ministries of Japan, headed by the Minister of Finance. Its predecessor was the Ministry of Finance (also known as the Daikoku-ryo), and it was established on January 6, 2001, following the reorganization of central government ministries. Matters related to the national budget, tax system, currency, government bonds, and other public finance affairs fall under its jurisdiction.
According to Article 3 of the Ministry of Finance Establishment Act, the mission of the Ministry of Finance is to "ensure sound public finance, achieve appropriate and equitable taxation, properly manage customs operations, prudently administer the national treasury, maintain trust in currency, and ensure the stability of foreign exchange."
