The Department of Environmental Protection in the Taiwan region is the highest authority in charge of environmental protection affairs in the Taiwan region. Initially established as the “Environmental Sanitation Division under the Executive Yuan Department of Health” on March 17, 1971, it became an independent central-level agency named the “Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan” on August 22, 1987. On August 22, 2023, it was officially restructured and upgraded to the Ministry of Environment.
