ECHA Proposes to Add 5 substances to the EU REACH Authorisation List

On 7 February 2024, ECHA proposed adding 5 substances to the Authorisation List under the EU REACH Annex 14, including melamine, which are considered to be of very high concern (SVHCs). Additionally, ECHA launched a public consultation to update the information on dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (CAS No. 84-74-2).

Details of these 5 subsances:

Proposed revisions include exemptions and applications, such as Regulation (EC) 1935/2004, Directive 90/385/EEC, Directive 93/42/EEC, Directive 98/79/EC, Regulation (EU) 2017/745 and Regulation (EU) 2017/746. The latest application of products mentioned in the above regulations or directives will be 18 months after the enactment. Moreover, the exemption for pertinent products may close 36 months following the enactment of regulations.

If a chemical substance is added into the authorization list under the EU REACH (Annex XIV), enterprises shall guarantee their substances or articles compliant with relevant requirements from the sunset date, unless certain uses have been authorized or exempted.
