UK HSE: Active substance DBNPA not supported, and renewal submission deadline for GB active substances is coming
UK
BPR

In January 2024, the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) intends to not received dossier on an active substance 2,2-dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide (DBNPA, CAS No 10222-01-2; EC 233-539-7) in product type 02. Under the UK Biocidal Products Regulations (GB BPR), where active substance/product type combinations are not supported, then these active substance/product type combinations are subject to non-approval decision.

Once a decision is taken, biocidal products and treated articles containing this active substance in the relevant product types will have to be removed from the GB market, and phase out periods may apply in GB. Any negative impacts on the active substance/product type combination listed above, please contact the HSE by 4 February 2024.

HSE also released 16 active substances approved under the GB BPR that are going to be expired. Under the GB Biocidal Product Regulation (GB BPR), active substance approvals will expire unless a renewal application is submitted at least 550 days their expiry date (see the following table).

Stakeholders shall apply for active substance renewal within corresponding deadlines to keep products on the GB market. If a renewal application is not submitted for the above active substance/product type combinations under the GB BPR, the approvals will expire, which means these active substances can no longer be used in biocidal products or treated articles of the relevant product types in GB.

It shall be noted that any person, company or consortium can support an active substance/product type/combination for renewal (doesn’t have to be the original supporter). If you want to know more about the original supporters of active substances, you can search the GB Article 95 List.
