Different from chemical inventories in other countries, NZIoC contains all the hazardous chemical substances produced or imported in New Zealand after June 30, 2006. All the substances listed in the NZIoC can be used in the formulation of group standards products.
Unless otherwise specified in the regulations, hazardous chemicals refer to:
(a) Substances with one or more of the following intrinsic properties:
(i) Explosiveness;
(ii) Flammability;
(iii) Oxidative capacity;
(iv) Corrosiveness;
(v) Toxicity (including chronic toxicity);
(vi) Eco-toxicity, with or without bioaccumulation; or
(b) Substances that will produce substances with any one or more of the hazard properties specified in paragraph (a) when in contact with air or water (except in situations where the temperature/pressure has been artificially increased or decreased)
For any hazardous components in newly formulated products approved by the group standards that are not listed in the NZIoC,Form HSC14 shall be submitted to EPA to add the hazardous components into the NZIoC. The acceptance time shall be 40 working days after submitting applications.
There are no mandatory notification requirements for non-hazardous substances.
